Beth sy'n newydd? Wel, mae Cymru wedi colli ei theitl fel Pencampwyr Ewrop yn Rygbi'r Undeb ar ol i Iwerddon ein curo 15-17 yng Nghaerdydd ddydd Sadwrn diwethaf. Trwy hyn, maen nhw'n bencampwyr twrnameint y 6 gwlad, yn ennill dim ond eu hail Gamp Lawn a'r Goron Driphlyg. Da iawn, chi Wyddelod.
Dw i ar ganol dau beth pwysig i'r Brifysgol Agored. Marcio gwaith myfyrwyr ar gyfer eu 3ydd asesiad - ysgrifenedig a llafar, yn ogystal a chymryd rhan mewn cwrs hyfforddi rhai sy'n cymedroli sgyrsiau ar y rhyngrwyd mewn fforymau. Well, what an interesting few days. I was in Cambridge on Saturday, attending the annual day of the Faculty of Education and Language Studies (FELS) for the Open University in the East of England. Dreadful journey and public transport connections: Bus from home to Luton, train from London to Welwyn Garden City, bus from Welwyn to Letchworth Garden City, train from Letchworth to Cambridge. Engineering works on the line apparently. Anyway, the day in Cambridge was well worth attending; networking with fellow lecturers, being feted as the only Welsh representative and attending interesting workshops. I hope to be part of a group of dedicated Researchers at the OU from now on too.
Saturday evening brought news of the narrow Welsh victory in the Six Nations against Italy in Rome: 20-15. But a win is a win, right? More importantly, Miri and I went out and had a meal in our favourite Italian restaurant. Yes, they cook better than they play rugby... atthe moment, anyway...
Sunday. Sainsbury's and curtain buying.
Monday. I have just started an OU on-line course for Tutor Moderators. This should last 3 weeks, and is only part-time. Hope it proves beneficial. Also with the OU, Students' 3rd coursework is due by midnight tonight.

Purposes of Blog
Welcome to the blog of the Welsh Cultural Embassy! This blog has many purposes, but together they are to be considered as a means and foundation of raising the profile of both Wales and the Welsh language amongst its readers (and ideally, beyond them). I will of course give a personal reference in the blog from time too. Additionally, according to my own personal predeliction, I intend to blog in any of my three main professional languages: English, French or Welsh.
However, you are free to contact me in your language of choice of the above three and I will reply to you in that one. I do not intend to repeat what is already in my personal profile with regard to my background, either socially or academically nor indeed professionally. With this in mind, I intend to concentrate here on the reasoning behind setting up the blog and what (for the most part) will be its contents. I have regularly found it to be the case that the vast majority of our geographical neighbours (perhaps from choice) have a rather poor understanding and grasp of things regarding to Wales and the Welsh language. The same can be said for a substantial number of our fellow Europeans. If, like me, you are a mother-tongue speaker of Welsh, you may find this a very familiar story. Aware of these deficiencies, and with the potential of interacting with international readers, I thought about establishing this virtual Embassy.
This interaction in the blog reader's language of choice - be it English, French or Welsh - would be, I hoped, a means of providing them with further information about Wales, its vibrant traditions, its strong culture, its long history, its beautiful language and ancient literature, in addition to its contemporary political scene and indeed, anything else of a Welsh interest that a caller at the Embassy could seek. However, let it be stressed immediately that I do not profess to be an expert in ALL fields or disciplines involved in the 'subject matter of Wales.'
For my own part, I will strive to play to my strengths with regard to such matters as Welsh language and literature, some aspects of culture, history and traditions as well as the exciting current affairs situation. It is possible, if not self-evident that I will not be able to supply a full answer every time. Indeed, there will be occasions when answers will not be possible at all as the subject matter is totally beyond my knowledge. In such cases, I intend to refer my readers to more specialist materials and sources, on the Internet or elsewhere, where the answer sought may well be found. In such cases for example, I can categorically state I have limited knowledge of Welsh Folk Dancing, but I do have the address of the person to contact as the Secretary of Cymdeithas Dawns Werin Cymru.
I am not however responsible for any loss or damage suffered by a reader of this blog who relies on the information given by individuals, bodies, organisations or web sites referred to in good faith by me. They are there to be used as possible sources of information and can refer the inquirer to other beneficial sources.If this blog contributes to an increase the knowledg and appreciation of Wales and of things Welsh it will have proven its worth.I look forward to your comments.

Situation de famille
Né le 17 mai 1968. Llanelwy/St. Asaph, Nord-est du pays de Galles. Enfant unique de John Ellis (1924-2008) et Joan Rees Williams (1925- ). Marié le 19 décembre 2008 avec Miranda Constance Griffin (1966-), deuxième fille du Professeur Jasper Griffin (1937- ) et le Dr Miriam Griffin (1935- ).
Le Flintshire au West Sussex. 1968-1976.
Avec mes parents, j’ai déménagé vers le West Sussex, un peu après mon 1er anniversaire. Je suis allé à l’école maternelle de Cuckfield et puis les écoles primaires, St Mark's CofE Primary School, Staplefield et Warninglid CP School, dans le même comté. Mes parents ont décidé très tôt que je devrais être au moins bilingue, et je ne parlais que le gallois avec mon père et uniquement l’anglais avec ma mère. De plus, mon institutrice à Warninglid était française, et j’ai suivi les cours avec elle dans sa langue maternelle.
Nord-ouest du pays de Galles au West Yorkshire. 1976-1989.
Je suis retourné avec mes parents au nord-ouest du pays de Galles à Noël 1976 et je suis allé dans les écoles primaires dans les départements du Gwynedd et Ynys Môn/l’Ile d’Anglesey. J’étais le dernier élève à l’école secondaire de Ysgol Brynrefail Llanrug, Gwynedd à étudier 4 langues pour le GCE O Level (l'équivalent du CES) : l’anglais, le français, le gallois (première langue) et le Latin en 1984 ; j’ai réussi en 9 matières. J’ai obtenu 3 GCE A Levels (l’équivalent du Baccalauréat) étant le seul candidat qui a passé l’anglais et le gallois – Grammaire, Langue et Littérature – et j’ai reçu 2 Bourses Académiques 1986.Par la suite, j’ai fait des études de droit des affaires à l’Université de Huddersfield 1986-1989. J’ai obtenu ma licence de 2:1 LLB. (Honours) (l’équivalent du Bac + 3 avec mention bien) en juin 1989.
Formation de professeur d’anglais langue étrangère. 1992 et 1995.
J’ai obtenu le Certificat City and Guilds 9281 pour enseigner les connaissances élémentaires avec l’accent sur enseigner l’anglais à ceux qui parlent d’autres langues (ESOL, c’est-à-dire, les gens qui habitent au Royaume-Uni), en mars 1995.
Ayant completé un cours préliminaire pour Enseigner l’anglais comme Langue Etrangère (EFL) à L’institut d’Enseignement Technique de Huddersfield (janvier-février 1992), j’ai réussi dans le cours à plein-temps (4 semaines/130 heures)de Trinity College Londres et j’ai obtenu le Certificat en Enseinger l’anglais aux Parleurs des Autres Langues (Cert. TESOL, pour enseigner aux gens qui habitent n’importe où dans le monde en juillet 1995.

J’étais le Fonctionnaire des Droits Linguistiques Gallois de l’organisation Cefn (http://www.cefn.net/) pendant 1995-1996.Je suis élu le premier Fonctionnaire de la Langue Galloise du Mouvement Européen (http://www.europeanmovement.org/) pour l’année 1996-1997.

Auparavant, j’étais Assistant d’anglais avec beaucoup de succès au Lycée de la Vallée de Chevreuse, Essonne, France (1993-1994) et professeur bénévole de gallois au sein de l’Amicale galloise de Huddersfield (1989-1993), mais ma carrière professionnelle d’enseignant en anglais et en gallois aux adultes a commencé à Paris en juin 1997.

J’ai enseigné l’anglais dans les écoles privées de langues dans des endroits divers à Paris et dans quelques sociétés, aux adultes. Parmi les compagnies j’avais les étudiants de : L’Armée de Terre, Brinks, Canal Plus, Citroën, Elida Fabergé, Marionaud, l’OACI (une partie de l’ONU), Paribas, Prada, Rothschild, SAGEM et Unilever.
J’ai enseigné le gallois par le moyen de la langue française dans un statut freelance aux individus et aux groupes d’adultes. Tout au long de mon séjour à Paris, j’avais un monopole d’enseigner cette langue. J’ai organisé les évènements informels mensuels pour mes étudiants et les galloisants pour qu’ils puissent pratiquer la langue ensemble.

J’étais le professeur en tête d’ESOL, en français et en gallois à tous niveaux pour Coleg Harlech Workers' Education Association (North Wales) (http://www.harlech.ac.uk/), un organisme comme le GRETA en France, for 2005-2006. J’ai enseigné chez eux et aussi dans les sociétés telles Grampian Foods et Ysbyty Gwynedd. J’ai aussi enseigné les cours intensifs en français et gallois à Pâques pendant une semaine et pendant un cours d’été residentiel.

D’octobre 2006 à septembre 2008, j’étais Maître de Conférénce et locuteur natif d’anglais et de gallois en gallois et en anglais à l’Université Catholique de Jean-Paul II à Lublin, Pologne, KUL (http://www.kul.pl/). J’ai enseigné les étudiants des années III, IV et V qui suivaient des programmes de maîtrise dans la philologie anglaise et celtique et de la littérature à l’Université. A cette époque, j’ai aidé à établir les Journées Annuelles Galloises et j’étais aussi un participant des Journées Annuelles Celtiques.

J’étais le Producteur et Animateur d’une émission de la radio bilingue anglo-gallloise qui a eu beaucoup de succès à Huddersfield Community Radio en 1992.
J’étais un des rechercheurs du film documentaire Llythyrau Ellis Williams qui était diffusé pour la première fois sur la chaîne galloise, S/4C en 2006.
On m’a interviewé à la radio et pour plusieurs magazines par rapport à mon travail professionel et les sujets qui touchent le pays de Galles et la langue galloise. Parmi eux : Radio Lublin FM et Y Cymro, les deux en 2008 ; Radio Bro, Paris en 1997; The Daily Post et Yr Herald Cymraeg, les deux en 2006 ; BBC Radio Cymru en 2000 et BBC Radio Leeds en 1993.

J’ai voyagé en Inde tout seul par car, train et à pied pendant les vacances de Noël/Nouvel An 1999-2000.
J’étais membre de l’équipe française qui a joué dans un Tournoi de Cricket en salle à Vienne en Autriche en mars 2000.

Né le 17 mai 1968. Llanelwy/St. Asaph, Nord-est du pays de Galles. Enfant unique de John Ellis (1924-2008) et Joan Rees Williams (1925- ). Marié le 19 décembre 2008 avec Miranda Constance Griffin (1966-), deuxième fille du Professeur Jasper Griffin (1937- ) et le Dr Miriam Griffin (1935- ).
Le Flintshire au West Sussex. 1968-1976.
Avec mes parents, j’ai déménagé vers le West Sussex, un peu après mon 1er anniversaire. Je suis allé à l’école maternelle de Cuckfield et puis les écoles primaires, St Mark's CofE Primary School, Staplefield et Warninglid CP School, dans le même comté. Mes parents ont décidé très tôt que je devrais être au moins bilingue, et je ne parlais que le gallois avec mon père et uniquement l’anglais avec ma mère. De plus, mon institutrice à Warninglid était française, et j’ai suivi les cours avec elle dans sa langue maternelle.

Je suis retourné avec mes parents au nord-ouest du pays de Galles à Noël 1976 et je suis allé dans les écoles primaires dans les départements du Gwynedd et Ynys Môn/l’Ile d’Anglesey. J’étais le dernier élève à l’école secondaire de Ysgol Brynrefail Llanrug, Gwynedd à étudier 4 langues pour le GCE O Level (l'équivalent du CES) : l’anglais, le français, le gallois (première langue) et le Latin en 1984 ; j’ai réussi en 9 matières. J’ai obtenu 3 GCE A Levels (l’équivalent du Baccalauréat) étant le seul candidat qui a passé l’anglais et le gallois – Grammaire, Langue et Littérature – et j’ai reçu 2 Bourses Académiques 1986.Par la suite, j’ai fait des études de droit des affaires à l’Université de Huddersfield 1986-1989. J’ai obtenu ma licence de 2:1 LLB. (Honours) (l’équivalent du Bac + 3 avec mention bien) en juin 1989.
Formation de professeur d’anglais langue étrangère. 1992 et 1995.
J’ai obtenu le Certificat City and Guilds 9281 pour enseigner les connaissances élémentaires avec l’accent sur enseigner l’anglais à ceux qui parlent d’autres langues (ESOL, c’est-à-dire, les gens qui habitent au Royaume-Uni), en mars 1995.
Ayant completé un cours préliminaire pour Enseigner l’anglais comme Langue Etrangère (EFL) à L’institut d’Enseignement Technique de Huddersfield (janvier-février 1992), j’ai réussi dans le cours à plein-temps (4 semaines/130 heures)de Trinity College Londres et j’ai obtenu le Certificat en Enseinger l’anglais aux Parleurs des Autres Langues (Cert. TESOL, pour enseigner aux gens qui habitent n’importe où dans le monde en juillet 1995.

J’étais le Fonctionnaire des Droits Linguistiques Gallois de l’organisation Cefn (http://www.cefn.net/) pendant 1995-1996.Je suis élu le premier Fonctionnaire de la Langue Galloise du Mouvement Européen (http://www.europeanmovement.org/) pour l’année 1996-1997.

J’ai enseigné l’anglais dans les écoles privées de langues dans des endroits divers à Paris et dans quelques sociétés, aux adultes. J’ai enseigné le gallois par le moyen de la langue française dans un statut freelance aux individus et aux groupes d’adultes. Tout au long de mon séjour à Paris, j’avais un monopole d’enseigner cette langue. J’ai organisé les évènements informels mensuels pour mes étudiants et les galloisants pour qu’ils puissent pratiquer la langue ensemble.

J’étais le professeur en tête d’ESOL, en français et en gallois à tous niveaux pour Coleg Harlech Workers' Education Association (North Wales) (http://www.harlech.ac.uk/), un organisme comme le GRETA en France, for 2005-2006. J’ai enseigné chez eux et aussi dans les sociétés telles Grampian Foods et Ysbyty Gwynedd. J’ai aussi enseigné les cours intensifs en français et gallois à Pâques pendant une semaine et pendant un cours d’été residentiel.

Gyda fy rhieni, fe symudais i Orllewin Sussex yn fuan ar ôl fy mhenblwydd yn flwydd oed, gan ddechrau yn ysgol feithrin yn Cuckfield ac yna symud i St Mark's CofE Primary School, Staplefield a Warninglid CP School yn yr un swydd. Penderfynwyd yn fuan iawn dylwn fod o leiaf yn ddwy-ieithog, a siaredais dim ond y Gymraeg gyda'm tad a’r Saesneg gyda fy mam. Roedd fy athrawes dosbarth yn Warninglid yn Ffrances, a bu hyn o gymorth mawr i ddysgu'r iaith honno yn gynnar iawn hefyd.

Dychwelais gyda’m rhieni i ogledd orllewin Cymru adeg y Nadolig 1976 a mynychais ysgolion cynradd ym Mhenisarwaun, Gwynedd ac yn Llandegfan, Ynys Môn.
Myfi oedd y disgybl olaf i astudio 4 iaith ar gyfer TAU Lefel O yn Ysgol Brynrefail Llanrug, Gwynedd: Cymraeg (Iaith Gyntaf), Ffrangeg, Lladin a Saesneg yn 1984 a bu i mi lwyddo mewn 9 arholiad. Yn 1986, llwyddais newn 3 TAU Lefel A – a’r unig ymgeisydd i astudio’r Gymraeg (Gramadeg, Iaith a Llenyddiaeth) – a’r Saesneg. Enillais 2 Ysgoloriaeth Academaidd.

Derbyniais y Dystysgrif City and Guilds 9281 mewn Dysgu Sgiliau Sylfaenol gyda’r pwyslais ar Ddysgu Saesneg i Siaradwyr Ieithoedd Eraill (ESOL, h.y. y rhai sy’n preswylio ym Mhrydain) ym mis Mawrth 1995.
Yr oeddwn eisoes wedi cwblhau Cwrs Rhagarweiniol mewn Dysgu Saesneg Iaith Dramor gyda’r Coleg Technegol, Huddersfield (mis Ionawr-mis Chwefror 1992), ac ym mis Gorffennaf 1995, bu i mi lwyddo yn arholiad Coleg y Drindod Llundain a derbyn y Dystysgrif mewn Dysgu Saesneg i Siaradwyr Ieithoedd Eraill (ESOL, h.y. i unrhyw berson yn astudio’r Saesneg trwy’r byd) ar ôl cwblhau’r cwrs dwys yn llawn amser (4 wythnos/130 awr).

Yr oeddwn yn Gyd-ymchwilydd ar y ffilm-ddogfen Llythyrau Ellis Williams a ddarlledwyd am y tro cyntaf ar S/4C yn 2006.
Rwyf wedi cael fy nghyfweld llawer o weithiau gan y cyfryngau ynghylch fy ngwaith proffesiynol, yr iaith Gymraeg a Chymru. Family and Marital Status
Born 17 May 1968. Llanelwy/St. Asaph, North East Wales.
Only child of John Ellis (1924-2008) and Joan Rees Williams (1925- ).
Married 19 December 2008 to Miranda Constance Griffin (1966-), middle daughter of Professor Jasper Griffin (1937- ) and Dr Miriam Griffin (1935- ).
Flintshire to West Sussex. 1968-1976.
Along with my parents, I moved to West Sussex just after my 1st birthday, entering nursery school in Cuckfield and then St Mark's CofE Primary School, Staplefield and Warninglid CP School in the same county. My parents decided early on I would be minimally bilingual, speaking only Welsh to my father and only English to my mother. My French native speaker form teacher in Warninglid supplemented this language diet with an education through the medium of French.
North West Wales to West Yorkshire. 1976-1989.
I returned with my parents to North West Wales at Christmas 1976 and attended primary schools both in Gwynedd and on Ynys Môn/the Isle of Anglesey.
I was the last pupil at the secondary school, Ysgol Brynrefail Llanrug, Gwynedd to study 4 languages for GCE O Level: Welsh (First Language), English, French and Latin in 1984, earning 9 passes. I obtained 3 GCE A Levels (being the sole candidate for both English and Welsh - Grammar, Language and Literature - and received 2 Academic Scholarships) in 1986.
I subsequently read Business Law at the University of Huddersfield 1986-1989. I graduated in June 1989 with a 2:1 LLB. (Honours) Degree.
English as a Foreign Language Teacher Training. 1992 and 1995.
I obtained the City and Guilds Certificate 9281 in Teaching Basic Skills with emphasis on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (i.e. those resident in the UK) in March 1995.
Having previously completed an Introductory course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language with the Technical College, Huddersfield (January-February 1992), I successfully passed the full-time (4 week/130 hour)Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (i.e. to any person studying English worldwide) in July 1995.
Welsh Language Officer Posts. 1995-1997.
I became the Language Rights Officer for the Welsh civil and linguistic rights organisation Cefn (http://www.cefn.net/) 1995-1996.
I was elected the first Welsh Language Officer of the European Movement (http://www.europeanmovement.org/) for the year 1996-1997.

I had previously been a highly successful English Language Assistant in the département of Essonne at the Lycée de la Vallée de Chrevreuse, France 1993-1994 and a voluntary tutor of Welsh to Huddersfield Welsh Society, 1989-1993, but my professional teaching career in both English and Welsh to adults began in Paris in June 1997.

English teaching in Paris was supplied in various language schools and in-house, the latter companies all providing adult students to be taught by me: Brinks, Canal Plus, Citroen, Elida Fabergé, the French Army, ICAO (part of the United Nations Organisation), Marionaud, Paribas Bank, Prada, Rothschild Bank, SAGEM and Unilever.
Welsh was taught through the medium of French in a freelance capacity to both individuals and groups of adults. Throughout my stay in Paris, 1997-2001, I maintained a monopoly position in teaching this language in the French capital. I also organised successful informal monthly Welsh evenings for students and others to get together and practise their language skills.
Coleg Harlech WEA, North West Wales Region. 2005-2006.
I was the lead teacher of ESOL, French and Welsh at all levels for Coleg Harlech Workers' Education Association (North Wales) (http://www.harlech.ac.uk/), for 2005-2006, teaching both in-house and in companies such as Grampian Foods and Ysbyty Gwynedd. I also taught on extensive Easter and summer school courses in Harlech in both French and Welsh.
John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland. 2006-2008.
From October 2006 to September 2008, I was the native speaker Lecturer of both Welsh and English at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, KUL (http://www.kul.pl/) teaching years III, IV and V following MA programmes in English and Celtic Philology and Literature at the university. During this time, I helped inaugurate and organise the Annual Welsh Days and also was an active participant in the Annual Celtic Days.
The Open University in the East of England, Cambridge and Dunstable. Since 2008.
Since October 2008, I am the sole Associate Lecturer in Welsh for the Open University (http://www.open.ac.uk/) in the East of England teaching a group of adult learners from home via the Internet and through face to face tutorials in Cambridge.

Additionally, I gave a presentation in French of the work of the Welsh language and civil rights organisation Cymuned, (http://www.cymuned.net/) of which I am the International Contacts and French Language Officer in 2008.

I was awarded a trophy for being a member of the winning team in Yorkshire's Largest General Knowledge Quiz, held in Huddersfield in February 1993.
An active member of a French Duplicate Scrabble™ club in Paris, France, I was placed 6th out 113 competitors at the end of the season in 1997-1998.
I toured India alone by coach, by train and on foot over Christmas/New Year 1999-2000.
I was a member of the representative French cricket team at an Indoor Cricket Tournament in Vienna, Austria in March 2000.

Married 19 December 2008 to Miranda Constance Griffin (1966-), middle daughter of Professor Jasper Griffin (1937- ) and Dr Miriam Griffin (1935- ).
Flintshire to West Sussex. 1968-1976.
Along with my parents, I moved to West Sussex just after my 1st birthday, entering nursery school in Cuckfield and then St Mark's CofE Primary School, Staplefield and Warninglid CP School in the same county. My parents decided early on I would be minimally bilingual, speaking only Welsh to my father and only English to my mother. My French native speaker form teacher in Warninglid supplemented this language diet with an education through the medium of French.
North West Wales to West Yorkshire. 1976-1989.
I returned with my parents to North West Wales at Christmas 1976 and attended primary schools both in Gwynedd and on Ynys Môn/the Isle of Anglesey.
I was the last pupil at the secondary school, Ysgol Brynrefail Llanrug, Gwynedd to study 4 languages for GCE O Level: Welsh (First Language), English, French and Latin in 1984, earning 9 passes. I obtained 3 GCE A Levels (being the sole candidate for both English and Welsh - Grammar, Language and Literature - and received 2 Academic Scholarships) in 1986.
I subsequently read Business Law at the University of Huddersfield 1986-1989. I graduated in June 1989 with a 2:1 LLB. (Honours) Degree.

I obtained the City and Guilds Certificate 9281 in Teaching Basic Skills with emphasis on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (i.e. those resident in the UK) in March 1995.
Having previously completed an Introductory course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language with the Technical College, Huddersfield (January-February 1992), I successfully passed the full-time (4 week/130 hour)Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (i.e. to any person studying English worldwide) in July 1995.

I had previously been a highly successful English Language Assistant in the département of Essonne at the Lycée de la Vallée de Chrevreuse, France 1993-1994 and a voluntary tutor of Welsh to Huddersfield Welsh Society, 1989-1993, but my professional teaching career in both English and Welsh to adults began in Paris in June 1997.

Welsh was taught through the medium of French in a freelance capacity to both individuals and groups of adults. Throughout my stay in Paris, 1997-2001, I maintained a monopoly position in teaching this language in the French capital. I also organised successful informal monthly Welsh evenings for students and others to get together and practise their language skills.

From October 2006 to September 2008, I was the native speaker Lecturer of both Welsh and English at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, KUL (http://www.kul.pl/) teaching years III, IV and V following MA programmes in English and Celtic Philology and Literature at the university. During this time, I helped inaugurate and organise the Annual Welsh Days and also was an active participant in the Annual Celtic Days.
